The Lord of the Rings Gift Set brings together 20 pencils inspired by the mythology of Middle-earth, each one designed around the lore of the Great Rings. Those 19 forged by Celebrimbor for Men, Dwarves, and Elves, and the one made in secret that we all know went rather badly.
The pencils are split across three graphite grades to match their bearers. The nine Mortal Men pencils come in soft graphite (easily corrupted, perhaps), the seven Dwarven pencils in balanced, and the three Elven rings in firm, which feels exactly right. Then there's the gold One Ring pencil itself, in extra-firm graphite and imprinted with the inscription. Artist Mike Hawthorne has done beautiful work on the illustrations throughout, and the whole set comes with a gold One-Step Sharpener, a gold Point Guard, and a Middle-earth map printed on transparent transfer paper, which is a lovely touch.
Whether this is for a Tolkien fan who also happens to love stationery, or a stationery person who also happens to love Tolkien, it makes an excellent gift, possibly for yourself. We won't judge.
